Each quarter, Endeavor, the locally owned and operated co-working space in downtown Greenville, hosts a speaker series to help members grow both professionally and personally. To kick off the fall, Endeavor member Rachael Reece, whose agency Ignite Engagement consults for companies across the country, challenged her audience to rethink how they make meaningful goals and achieve them.
Why September? Research shows that early fall is the prime time to start fresh routines and refocus your energy. When you think about fall, it’s a sign of harvest. There’s an opportunity between now and the end of the year to harvest your dreams, set goals to reach them, and to recalibrate and reset before the end of the year.
The majority of people wait until December to set goals for the coming year; it’s ingrained in us to start the new year off ‘fresh’ with a clear vision for the future. However, it comes as no surprise that the average New Year’s Resolution is typically abandoned around February 11. Only 9% of people successfully keep up with their goals and resolutions throughout the year.
Although the calendar may be winding down, your goals don’t need to wait until 2026. So, what did we learn about not just articulating meaningful goals, but achieving them?
- Anchor in Purpose & Value
- What are my top 3-5 values?
- This season, I want my goals to reflect my commitment to…
- Does this goal express my values? Will achieving it move me toward fulfilling purpose?
- Frame Goals with the Will & the Way
- The Will (Motivation): Why does this matter now? What deeper value does it serve?
- The Way (Action): Define 1-3 when/where/how steps for action.
- Behavior Change Elements for Success
- Start small: Shrink the change to make it feel doable
- Habit stack: Attach behavior changes to an existing routine
- Reduce friction for positive habits, add friction for undesired ones
- Accountability: Share with a partner or team
- Track progress visibly and celebrate micro-wins
- Reflection & Renewal Rhythm
- Weekly Review: Think about your wins and barriers from the week and the next steps you want to take to stay on track
- Mid-point Reset (Day 45): Am I still aligned with values & purpose?
- 90-Day Harvest: What did I accomplish? What values were lived?
Reece left her audience with the tools for success. Now it’s your turn, what goals do you want to start working towards?
