What is Coworking?

One of the best things about coworking spaces is flexibility—and for so many people, Endeavor’s unique space can become whatever you need it to be. Coworking spaces combine your (or your team’s) creativity with opportunities for networking to produce great ideas and connections.

However, we recognize the concept of coworking is still unclear to many, so let’s take a deep dive into coworking basics.

What is coworking?

Coworking is a working arrangement in which people from different businesses come to work in a single shared space. Think: a professional office space and coffee shop combined to offer open work spaces, offices, private desks and shared amenities for working professionals.

When did coworking become popular?

Coworking as a segment began in 1990s Europe in spaces called hackerspaces. The movement caught on in America in the 2000s and accelerated after COVID-19, as social distancing restrictions put the brakes on returning to the office. Now 14% of all employed adults are fully remote workers and 41% have a hybrid set up.

Why cowork?

There are countless reasons to cowork, but here are five notable benefits.

1. Increased Productivity + Creativity

Without the distractions of that at home to-do list and upkeep requirements of owning your own office space, coworking members can simply focus on their work, increasing productivity and success rates. A study by TeamStage showed that 84% of working professionals report feeling more motivated and engaged when working at a coworking space. Additionally, with the opportunity to interact with others from different industries, sharing different perspectives and ideas, coworking spaces spark creativity and new thinking.

2. Flexibility

With different office layouts and spaces to work, and the option to come and go as needed to meet independent work needs, coworking gives individuals more flexibility.

3. Sense of Community

One challenge for remote workers is isolation. To overcome isolation, coworking spaces offer opportunities to socialize and interact with other coworking members. Often, coworking spaces become communities and foster a sense of belonging for members.

4. Networking Opportunities

Working among individuals from a variety of businesses opens the door to networking and collaboration with others through casual conversation. Lunch & learn-type events allow for getting to know other members and introducing them to your business. At Endeavor, though, you’re really able to network every minute of every day, making new connections at the coffee bar, in the lobby where there’s always something going on, and in the shared workspace areas. Those are the lasting, genuine connections a great coworking space strives to help foster.

5. Valuable Amenities for Less

Most coworking spaces offer high-end amenities for much less because of shared business expenses. For example, Endeavor offers access to an executive gym, a bottomless coffee bar, high-speed internet, printing services, a kitchen/break room, and more to members for fractions of the cost. From offices to private desks to flex plans, what you pay for what you get is a great value compared to what you’d pay to set up an office on your own.

At Endeavor Coworking, we believe that many of our members’ greatest accomplishments result from teamwork, shared innovation, increased focus & productivity, and our bright, creative spaces. Ready to try coworking out for yourself? Come visit us at Endeavor anytime M-F 8:30am-5:00pm.
