Sharpen your Skills in 2022 with Skillshare

March 17, 2022 – Hi everyone, Taylor here! One thing I’ve learned from working full-time is “Never stop learning,” so I wanted to highlight a key platform that’s helped me over the past few months in my current role here at Endeavor, our upscale co-working community. (Yes, I know what you’re thinking: didn’t you go to school to learn about what you do now?) Absolutely! I went to school and received a degree, but still didn’t know everything I needed for this particular position. Plus, in this fast-paced and changing world of digital marketing, I am grateful to have found a resource to help me keep up: Skillshare.

What is Skillshare?

Skillshare is a subscription-based platform that gives you access to thousands of video lessons/lectures from industry professionals. Skillshare has hundreds of subjects you can browse to refresh your skills or learn some new ones.

The basis of the videos is for professional development, however, recently they’ve broadened the platform to include hobbies and to help accomplish just about anything you want. The platform itself is really an online learning community and a great many of the classes are very interactive with projects, conversations, and posts.

There are 3 categories for the lectures (Create, Build, and Thrive) and each has a variety of teachers with different personalities, so you can choose someone who suits your style – which makes it great for everyone’s various ways of learning. The videos vary in time commitment. Some lessons have a few videos (10-15) while other lessons can have over a hundred videos. Each video is different in length, but the average is just 5 minutes per video. It’s easy to navigate and find a specific subject you’re looking for within the lesson itself. Just click the chapter that will discuss the subject you need and that cuts down on your time. If you’re starting a new job, changing jobs, or want to explore different industries without the commitment of college courses, I’d definitely recommend checking it out.

Here are some of my favorite classes that I’ve taken in the past few months:

  1. Graphic Design Masterclass: Learn Great Design (18 hours)
  2. Reach Your Goals: 7 Personal Development Exercises to Build the Life you Love (50 minutes)
  3. Creative Breakthrough: 8 Exercises to Power Your Creativity, Confidence, & Career (1 hour)
  4. SEO Today: Strategies to Earn Trust, Rank High, and Stand Out(1 hour 9 minutes)
  5. Productivity Today: Managing Attention in the Digital Age / Learn with Todoist (34 minutes)
  6. Instagram Best Practices: Grow Your Community, Work with Brands (36 minutes)

My goal for 2022 is to gain new skills and learn everything I can about my ever-changing industry, taking about 30 minutes a day to watch a series I’m interested in and one that will advance my career. I encourage anyone reading this blog to do the same. The world is changing within every industry and being open to learning new things is key to pushing yourself to be the best you can be. Skillshare is a great resource for anyone at any age or stage in your career. Remember: “Never stop learning.”
